šŸ¤²šŸ«€Touching the Untouchable (Without Magic Tricks)

ree

So there I was, deep into some highly scientific research (a.k.a. guilty scrolling on Instagram—don’t judge, it’s part of the job šŸ’), when I stumbled on a quote that stopped me mid-scroll:

ā€œMovement is a tactile tool to touch the untouchable parts of us.ā€

This treasure came from Bonnie Weeks—a wizard of creative sequencing (definitely worth a follow šŸ™Œ).

And bam! šŸ’„ That line hit me right in the fascia.

Here’s the thing: I’m not obsessed with nailing the fanciest asanas or perfecting the perfect handstand. Sure, chasing those goals is fun—but the finish line? Meh šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø, it’s not nearly as interesting as the journey. Building sequences around those poses is, for me, more like an excuse to craft a fascinating path. A journey where I ā€œtouchā€ parts of myself I can’t physically grab—but can definitely feel through deep awareness. This, my curious yoga friends, is interoception in action.

Wait... intero-what? šŸ¤”

Just a fancy word for something I am certain you love: the ability to sense your body’s inner states—your muscles contracting and relaxing, your fascia melting like butter, the rhythm of your breath, your heartbeat speeding up or calming down, and all those other yummy sensations that are tricky to put into words but very much alive in your practice.

Right now, as I cultivate interoception, I’m exploring ā€œtouchingā€ the front of my spine šŸ — the mysterious midline tucked behind the lungs, heart, and throat.

Why bother?

Mechanically, it’s our core axis of support.

Energetically, it’s the home of the Sushumna Nadi, the central channel where all the chakras stack like cosmic beads.

(Not vibing with chakras? šŸ”® No pb, just think of them as metaphorical emotional storage rooms, and then... let your eyes do a dramatic roll šŸ™„ and jump right past the list below šŸ˜…)

šŸ›– Root (base, sitbones): Safety, grounding

šŸŠ Sacral (pelvis, lower belly): Pleasure, creativity

šŸ”„ Solar Plexus (upper belly): Power, self-esteem

šŸ«€ Heart (chest): Love, connection

šŸ—£ļø Throat (you guessed it): Communication, truth

šŸ‘ļø Third Eye (forehead): Intuition, insight

šŸ‘‘ Crown (top of head): Wisdom, spirituality

But here’s something we can all agree on:

Emotions aren’t just guests in your brain—they’re resident or your body. Sadness floods your tear ducts, anger twists your gut, love warms your skin, anxiety tightens your chest.

So... what does this have to do with touching the front of the spine?

Just beyond that midline sits your spinal cord šŸ —the body’s ultimate communication highway (cue dramatic music šŸŽ¶ ). It’s a two-way street—brain talking to body, body chatting back, shaping how you feel and move.

So... when we place our awareness there—whether because we’re sensitive to the idea of chakras or tuned into our central nervous system—we’re diving straight to the spot where emotion, energy, and instinct converge šŸŒ€.

And boom šŸ’„ —that’s transformation’s front door.

Biomechanics backs this up: healthy movement spirals out from the spine first, like a fish shimmying its spine before its fins get the memo to move. And by breathing, feeling, and moving from that deep center, we’re not just working on effortless movement:

We’re also:

- Uncovering forgotten stories.

- Clearing emotional clutter.

- Letting energy ripple outward like peaceful pond circles.

šŸ¦„ No magic or miracles needed—just the everyday wonder of having a body, or better yet, being a body. All it takes is curiosity and a willingness to explore your inner landscape.

Because here’s the truth: your body is everything—brain, emotions, skin & bones, dreams, organs, traumas, joys, that weird-looking toe on your right foot 🦶, memory, fears, impulses, insights, intuition, and intellect—it’s all woven together in a gloriously messy, beautiful tapestry.

And you? Well, you’re one too. A beautiful, glorious tapestry—(I left out ā€œmessyā€, just to keep things friendly šŸ™ˆ ).

Your turn!

Next time you’re on your mat—or heck, even brushing your teeth:

1ļøāƒ£ Pause.

2ļøāƒ£ Find the front of your spine.

3ļøāƒ£ Touch the untouchable.

4ļøāƒ£ Let sensations and movements ripple outward from this midline, inviting any ā€œstickyā€ spots to reveal themselves as you explore the beautiful tapestry of your being.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—do these ideas spark any reflections for you? Comment! Because chatting is the yoga of connection, and connection is what lights me up ✨

With awe, anatomy geekery, and lots of heart,
